Weight Loss Update #1

Wink, wink.... I would like to start this post as my weight loss update #1 after joining the Curves workout for 3 months, and the outcome..... holy moly, it is quite successful. I'm still working on it.

I'm proudly to tell I've loss:
cm: 32cm
body fats: 2.5%
Kg: 3.5kg

Weight loss is not a monthly program, for me, it is a long term goal, just work for it and be consistent.
Of course, not to forget to control the food intake and try to eat as clean as possible. Stay away from fast food and refine sugar.

Eat your breakfast everyday with a variety of fruits, proteins and complex carbohydrate such as oat/ grains.
Eat your lunch with more vegetables and white meat, try to stay away from process food and fast food. It will not make you full and eventually you will start to crave for food 3-4hours later.
Eat your dinner as simple as possible.
Never ever skip your meal. Eat wisely, choose a nutritious food meal.
Exercise regularly including cardio workout, stretching and strength training.

Below are the examples of food that I had for dinner.

Always remember, nothing is impossible but of course, no pain, no gain.
Let's keep on moving and strive our very best. Healthy body, healthy mind!

Workout at Curves & Post Workout Food

After posting about joining to Curves gym workout for almost 3 weeks now, I've been trying to eat clean and less carbohydrate. Happy news, I've loss 1 kg. Yeah.....

Here's how the Curves workout gym looks like. There are different types of 'exercise machine' targeted for each part of body muscle. Coaches will be standing in the middle, guiding each of the members. We also workout together with the music tempo, mainly just make sure you're keep on moving. Each machine is separated with a recovery board for you to dance/shake your entire body/ follow the coaches instructions.

Once I've completed my 2 rounds of workout using all the machines, I'll walk to the stretching part. There are 4 sections at this stretching station. Stretching is so torturing, seriously is like pulling the muscle making it looks more elongate. Well, that's just what I think.
The whole workout only takes 30mins, short but pretty intense. I sweat a lot and my heart beats just keep on accelerating!

** Pictures with permission by the Curves center manager **

I workout every single day except for Sunday because the gym close on Sunday. I normally will start of the food of the day with fruits juice.  It has been almost 3 weeks since I started to workout and having fruits juice every morning seems to be a must for me.

I don't blend fruits together with vegetables, simply because I don't like how it tastes later on.
eg: bananas, apples, oranges, kiwi, blueberries, pears (sometimes I just picked 2-3 types of fruits as listed)
What type of fruits juice I've each day depends on the fruits that is available in the market, but having an apples and orange everyday is a must have ingredients.

I've talked to pharmacists and capsicum is a very good vegetables for detox and boost up metabolism. I don't fancy the scent and the taste of it, but for the sake of its benefits I just gallop it. This is what I've as my detox juice, I don't take this everyday, normally once a week is good enough for my taste bud. I don't enjoy it very much. Review about this detox juice, I would say, it is amazing, I feel hot after drinking it because it is working in boosting my metabolism, and also helps bowel movement. I only use 1/3 of capsicum, 1 tomato. 1 lemon and 1 stick of celery.

After I have all the fruits juice, I will take a shower and then, enjoy few glass of hot tea if I'm not in the rush to work. Currently, I'm obsessed with this tea. It smells so good, I don't think it has any taste though.

I don't just take juices/ tea for my breakfast. That's so not my style... I don't think starving myself will be benefit to my health. I reduced my carb intake but at the same time, I've added more protein, vegetables and fibre into my dietary. Well, I'm not a nutritionist but common sense, eating wisely without starving the body is utmost important.

Here's the example of my post workout food after the juices. Normally I eat them all after shower, so that the fruits juice I've consumed earlier has better absorption in my stomach (I think).

Semi cooked eggs with pepper and soy sauce.... wooo, I'm super happy with the food goes into my hungry stomach. haha!

That's all for today sharing ~

Weight Loss: Admit that I Just Break the Rules Last Month

(image from google)

Oh my, I fell of the wagon. I'm getting bigger which I shouldn't. I've not behave myself last month.

Last February was indeed a FATTY February. I admit it. I constantly give myself excuses that it is a short month, is a festive month and I can eat whatever I want. And then when I stepped on my weighing scale.....wah...everything shows clearly on the weigh scale with digits. I know, it is useless to sob about what I've done to myself. I'm bravely admit that I've gained weight. The whole dieting progress goes on very well on January and I shedded of about 4kg which is a lot for me.

You might wondering how come? Here's the story of the misbehave me,  I ate like a monster but I didn't take sweets (excuses). Anyway the main foods that I put on about 1-2kg are rice, oily food and also BAD HABIT = supper. I was lacked of motivation last month and got tempted too easily and worse I gave myself too much excuses that sounds very reasonable. I ate without thinking the calories and then boom! I'm disappointed with what I've done and this month I will work harder to shed of those fats!

However, I'm glad that I'm still aware about my weight loss program and still have that weight loss alert planted deep in my brain. I feel terrible with my uncontrollable food choice and eating habit. This month, I will motivate myself more and strive to the max. I think is good to admit my mistake and I do believe everyone has similar incident like I do.

This month, I will watch out with those fatty food and welcoming all the good, healthy, nutritious foods that I used to have. Let's see my updates again by the end of March... keep finger crossed it will be a good one then

Diet: What I've been Eating lately & Benefits from Plant-based Food

photo adapted from:www.premiumgroup.co.in

As the saying goes, you are what you eat. So, consider including plant-based food into your everyday diet.
This year my new year resolution is about shed off some fat, and so I put weight loss as my priority. After I done my body check, I was so shock that I've too much fat compared with lean muscle in my body. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not pointing fingers on those fat people, is just that the health report alarmed me.
I thought I'm very okay with my current body size but actually, after I got my health report, the whole impression has changed.

Few days ago, when I was working, I read about an article about food and diet which inspired me to share some of my thoughts and information I obtained from the article. At the beginning of this month, I begin my diet plan. Since I still not able to workout as much as I should, I decided to start from food I consumed.

Basically I have breakfast as usual but with some changes on what I eat. Since I live together with my in-laws, most of the time breakfast is already been prepared by maid before we all wake up, she used to cook fried noodles, keow teow and fried rice which I'm quite sure is taught by my in-laws. I noticed taking these in the morning isn't as healthy as I used to have when I was still staying with my parents. I decided to get back to my simple and healthy breakfast and you know what, it keeps me fulled.

As for my lunch and dinner, I try to eat as much vegetables as I could. I've been cutting down my rice intake as well. At first, it was terrible, I felt hungry almost every hour and started to look after something to munch. But then, my determination of shed off weight keep me safe from all the food tempt. At night, it was the worst, since I had my dinner earlier than before, I struggled with hunger till the next day. What I've done?
I started to eat dinner earlier, probably around 5-7pm, but never after 7pm as I believe the extra food that have not been digested and been metabolized will end up as fat store in my body. Oh my, the 1st week of diet was terrible for me. But now, I'm glad I've gone through .

For your information, everyday once my work done, I normally reached home at 10.45pm and then I will have supper together with my hubby and his family. Holy moly, when I flashed back what I've been doing the  pass year it was a really bad habit and diet I've developed. I have very heavy supper with meats, curry, pizza, fried chickens, McDonald burgers, name it I have almost all the fast food and instant noodles in my stomach. This year, I'm aware that these food will kill me soon and shorten my life, so again I decided to get rid of it. Sometimes it is hard, but if there's a will there's a way.

Here's some of my tips and foods I've been eating lately. I don't want to have all sort of modern disease such as obesity, heart attack, diabetic, high blood pressure, cholesterol etc.

For Breakfast:
- 3-4 tablespoons of oats (add hot water will do)
- 2 slices of wholemeal bread (with St. Dalfour jam & a slice of cheese/ chunky peanut butter)
- 2 hard boiled eggs (not everyday)*
- 1 cup of plain greek yogurt & fruits (not everyday)*
- 2-3 small sweet potatoes (not everyday)*

Lunch
- 1/2 scoop of rice
- stir fried vegetables ( have at least 2-3types of vegetables)
- fish (preferably steamed)
- a bowl of soup
** sometimes, I wake up around 11am, so after I have my breakfast, I skip my lunch because I'm too full to eat my lunch **

Dinner
- Same as my lunch but with more vegetables and less rice
- Sometimes, I have bread/cereal as dinner
- Sometimes, if I'm not in the mood to eat, I will just have salads (no mayonnaise)

Supper
- I still have my supper, I tried to get rid of this bad habit, but you know I'm too hungry to go to bed.
- 3-4 tablespoons of oats  or
- an apples or
- 1 cup of plain greek yogurt with fruits ( if I had it during my breakfast, then I will not take it again) or
- 2 slices of bread with peanut butter and jam / a bun    or
- a bowl of soup ( avoid starchy soup)  or
- a glass of hot beverages (soy milk no sugar added)

I like vegetables more than meat. I believe meat these days contains too much growth hormones, they aren't healthy as the organic one. Below are what I've had mostly:-

  • Pumpkin - rich in beta-carotene and alpha carotene, which fights lung and ovarian cancer
  • Broccoli - triggers anti-oxidant activity that can last for days. Contains sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol that are heroes in fighting prastate, bladder, colon and other hormon related cancer
  • Berries - blueberry, raspberry and strawberry are rich in anthocyannis that helps to prevent tumour growth
  • Tomatoes - contains lycopene, the active ingredient  that can reduce the risk of several types of cancer. Rich in antioxidant helps maintain youthful skin (not recommend for gout patient)
  • Tea - whether is black or green, both have anti-cancer properties. Helps in boosting the metabolism
  • Carrots - rich in beta -carotene and vitamin A, helps improve vision, reduce risk of lung, breast and colon cancer
  • Mushrooms - good source of vitamins B which is important in providing energy for protein, fats and carbohydrates break down and B12 is important for our nervous system. It is rich in anti-oxidant gluten free, low calories, fat free, cholesterol free and very low in sodium (not recommend for gout patient)
  • Sweet Potatoes - contains vitamin B6, which can reduce homocysteine in our body and this reduce the degenerative disease such s heart attacks. I found that sweet potatoes helps my digestive system and reduce constipation. It also helps in boosting energy levels and keep me in happy mood
Taking more vegetables not only keep me full, it helps my health too. I noticed vegetables that are rich in fibre helps my bowel movement and reduce constipation. Tomatoes and berries truly helps my complexion, tomatoes seems to work very well for me as I noticed my acne scar heals faster and almost to unnoticeable.

Lastly, think before eat and eat wisely. My current diet helps me lose about 1.5kg, which I'm happy to tell and share, vegetables diet works! Not only that, my skin has improving so much and I'm now more happy and more energetic.
Before I put this post with a full stop, do remember to drink more water as water helps to remove toxin out from our body through sweat and urine. Drinking plain water instead of high sugar drinks is important as well. I strongly believe, a well balance diet not only keep my body energetic it also keeps me in happy mood. Always remember, we should not have something too much or too less, moderation is the key.

Diet Food in Bazaar Ramadhan

Hello, as much as I enjoy my diet food, sometimes, I will look for other interesting food. I'm not a great cook but there's truly some simple and easy diet food that we can find in Bazaar Ramadhan and also make ourselves (if you want).

I noticed a lot of Ramadhan food tend to be a tad bit fatty, most of the food smell good but you'll regret if you break your diet rules. So, I'm pretty much start off my diet plan again. Why? I'm huge in sizes and my body starts to alarm me. I'm so worried that I can't fit into my wedding gown by the end of this year. Then, I decided to cut down my food intake. I avoid rice, but I still consume a little bit of bread, noodles, vermicelli, macaroni and etc .

Okay, back to the actual topic. I love to have 'popiah', 'pecal', 'tauhu sumbat' and soy milk. These are my top favourite food that I will get when I get the chance shop around in the Bazaar Ramadhan.

Popiah or known as spring rolls. Normally I prefer it wraps with long  beans, bean sprouts, stir fried eggs, a little bit of ham, lettuce, mengkuang shreds. Tell you, this food taste so, so good and no worries of getting lots of excess fat.

Pecal or Pecel is an Indonesian sauce based on chillies, peanuts, tamarind and coconut sugar. It is commonly served over boiled vegetables and ketupat rice or vermicelli . I love this to death, seriously. I think it is healthy because all the vegetables served without oil. Sometimes, my mom will make this though we aren't Malays. Well, just embrace the food no matter what races you are. Today I bought a packet of pecal from the Bazaar Ramadhan, it was too spicy for my taste, but overall it still deserves a credit.

Tauhu sumbat is another my diet food this month. It serves best if you refrigerate it for a little while.
There are some variation in the vegetables part. Some people prefer using just cucumber whereas some enjoy it with cucumber shreds and carrot shreds. I personally enjoying both but think the sauce serves as a very important part in order to make it taste even greater.

Lastly, in order to fulfill the hunger, please eat more fibre. Diet doesn't mean that you don't eat anything and starve ourselves, it is all about eating healthy and in a smaller portion. Off course, a nice cardio workout will help to burn off more fats and calories. All ways remember, you are what you eat!

In addition, I also practice yoga and it feels soooooo good.

Lecithin will help to increase fat metabolism
Fat Burner taste like hot chocolate drink, this will help to burn fat (not sure how it will works)
